How do I know if my house has rising damp?
Typical signs are tide marks or staining on the lower metre of a wall, peeling wallpaper or bubbling paint at skirting level, white salt deposits, and a musty smell. Condensation is often mistaken for rising damp, so we always confirm the cause with a survey before recommending treatment.
What causes damp in Northern Ireland homes?
The most common causes we see across Derry, Coleraine and Limavady are wind-driven rain getting through exposed walls and failed pointing, bridged or missing damp proof courses, blocked wall cavities, and condensation from poor ventilation. Older stone and solid-wall properties on the North Coast are especially prone.
How much does damp proofing cost?
It depends on the cause and how far the damp has spread. Injecting a new damp proof course into a single wall costs far less than treating a whole property with replastering. We survey first, then give you a written quote with no hidden costs before any work starts.
How long does damp proofing work take?
Most domestic damp proofing jobs take one to three days on site. If replastering is needed the walls also need drying time afterwards, and we will tell you exactly what to expect for your property when we quote.
Can you damp proof just one wall?
Yes. If only one wall is affected we treat that wall. The survey still checks the rest of the property so the source of the moisture is dealt with and the problem does not simply move elsewhere.

Rising damp is ground moisture drawn up through walls, and it rarely climbs higher than about a metre.
